A big cloud of dark smoke could be seen over Fort Smith Friday afternoon after a fire at a salvage yard.

The blaze occurred at about 1:30 p.m. at Fort Smith Auto Parts at Wheeler Avenue near South I Street.

Fire officials told News Staff that the fire began as a worker was trying to remove a part from a vehicle with a blowtorch. The fire spread to a large portion of the yard.

Smoke can still be seen coming from the yard, but fire officials said they are just working on putting out hot spots.

No injuries were reported.

Crews said no structures were affected by the blaze.
